Celebrating a special occasion? Is the champagne chilled and ready? You've probably seen a bottle of champagne with the cork flying and champagne gushing out the end. Keep the celebration going and open that bottle with care.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure there’s no dampness on the bottle or it may be slippery. Wipe it with a dry cloth.

  2. Step 2

Find the tab on the foil near the top of the bottle. Pull it around the bottle and remove the foil. Throw the foil away.

  3. Step 3

Twist the loop on the wire cage counterclockwise to loosen. Keep your finger or thumb on the cork to keep it from flying out when the cage is loosened.

  4. Step 4

Remove the wire cage and keeping your finger over the cork, keep the top of the bottle elevated at a 45 degree angle. This keeps the champagne from spilling out.

  5. Step 5

Turn the cork, not the bottle, back and forth gently to release the air pressure slowly. Once all air pressure has been released, remove the cork completely.

  6. Step 6

Pour some champagne into a champagne glass. It will foam up so pour just a little.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may want to wrap the neck and cork with a dish towel before you begin turning the cork. This will absorb any spills, should they occur.
  • Don’t shake the bottle before opening.
  • Don’t point the end of the bottle toward people while opening.
