How to Tie Holiday Bows

Everyone loves a beautifully wrapped present with a gorgeous bow. A large stunning bow can make quite the impression. You can buy these premade in stores but they can cost anywhere from three dollars to more than six dollars each. Think about how many presents you have to wrap and that cost adds up quite quickly. Thus learning to make them yourself can be a great skill and save you a ton of money.

Instructions

    • 1

Select your ribbon. Try to pick something that will contrast with the color of the wrapping so it stands out more. Make sure the ribbon you select is double sided or double faced as both sides of the ribbon will be visible.

    • 2

Cut a piece of ribbon 4 1/2 yards long. The ribbon should be 1 1/2-inches to 2-inches wide. Lay the ribbon on a large, clean, flat surface. Start at one end and measure in 1 1/2 feet. Leave this section alone. The measure another section of 10 inches. Lay that section down and gently fold another 10-inch section in the opposite direction so it forms a flat loop.

    • 3

Continue to make 10-inch sections until you reach the final 18 inches. Leave that 18 inches trailing off. Take a couple pieces of tape and secure the first two section on each side to one another so they don't trail off themselves or unfold.

    • 4

Thread your needle with a cotton thread that will match the ribbon color. Run the needle through the center of each 10-inch loop to gather them all together. Come back through all the centers with another stitch in the opposite direction so your loops have been poked twice. Wrap the end of the thread around the center of all the loops so it forms a bow.

    • 5

Tie the thread into a double knot and cut off the end. Now tie the trailing 18-inch sections onto your present. Arrange the loops of the bow to your liking.
