This bumble bee costume requires no sewing, so just about anyone can whip it together quickly, making it an appropriate last minute Halloween dress-up idea. The supplies needed to make the costume can be found at hardware, craft and grocery stores. The costume can be sized for a child or an adult.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large black plastic garbage bag with drawstring
  • Scissors
  • Roll of yellow caution tape
  • White craft glue
  • 3 long black pipe cleaners
  • 3 long yellow pipe cleaners
  • Black head band
  • Skewer or sharp paring knife
  • Acrylic craft paint
  • Paint brush or handled sponge brush
  • 2 small styrofoam balls
  • Newspaper or tissue paper
  1. Step 1

Take the plastic garbage bag and cut a hole large enough to put over your head in the bottom sealed part of the bag. Put it over your head. Mark where the arms should go by poking a hole through from the inside of the bag while you are wearing it. Take it off and cut out the arm holes.

  2. Step 2

Flatten the bag out and set it on a table or counter. Cut off a piece of yellow caution tape that is long enough to go all the way around the bag from front to back. Glue it in place with white craft glue all the way around. Repeat the cutting and gluing for as many stripes as you want your bumble bee costume to have. Glue the caution tape either backwards or front wards so the writing shows.

  3. Step 3

Twist one yellow and one black pipe cleaner together. Poke them through the lower part of the plastic bag at the back. Anchor in place by twisting the inside bit to form a knot. This is the bee’s stinger.

  4. Step 4

Paint the two Styrofoam balls black then let them dry.

  5. Step 5

Twist together two more pairs of yellow and black pipe cleaners. Take one pair of twisted pipe cleaners and anchor it around one side of the headband by twisting one end around it, so it sticks straight up when you have the headband on. Repeat with the other pair about 3 inches over.

  6. Step 6

Dip the loose ends of the pipe cleaners in glue then poke a hole in the painted Styrofoam ball with the skewer or the paring knife. Stick the glued pipe cleaner into the hole. Repeat with the other antennae. Let dry. This is the completed head piece.

  7. Step 7

Put the body of the bumble bee on over your head, and put your arms through the holes, with the stinger at the back. Tie the base of the costume so that is secure around you, sealing it around your body. Stuff crumpled newspaper or tissue paper in through the neck or arm openings. It will fill out the body of the bumble bee and make it more round.

  8. Step 8

    Put on the head piece.
