How to Go Dogsledding in the Poconos
If you love the winter and are looking for a way to enjoy the outdoors during those frigid months, dog sledding is an exhilarating activity. Cold, crisp air running across your face as you lead your team of sled dogs into the beautiful evergreen forest, life doesn't get much better. Although it's not quite Alaska, if you know where to look, the Poconos make a great place to give dog sledding a try while remaining within an hour or two drive from major metropolitan areas like Philadelphia and New York/New Jersey.

Convince some friends to join you; dog sledding is a rare, exciting experience that should be shared. Spouse, girlfriend, group of buddies--you'll need to subtly suggest the activity and convey images of mushing through the forest and enjoying backwoods' views that would otherwise be unreachable. If no one shares your enthusiasm, suggest that they come along simply to watch. The image of you potentially face-planting, time and time again, should get some bystanders. Besides, the Poconos offer a variety of other great amenities, including skiing, spas, romantic getaways and even casinos.

Tips & Warnings
Discuss the temperament of individual dogs with your guide, prior to approaching. Although they are beautiful, sled dogs are trained animals, bred to work. They are not necessarily friendly or eager to be pet or played with.
Although, the Poconos offers a controlled environment, dog sledding is an inherently dangerous activity and should be treated accordingly.
