    Make the Tarot Deck Personal

  1. Step 1

Choose a Tarot deck with which you feel comfortable. There are hundreds of Tarot card decks available from many different sources. You can find Tarot cards in national bookstore chains, metaphysical bookstores and on the Internet. The important thing to remember is if you want to learn how to read Tarot cards, you must use a deck you like. The person reading the Tarot cards should feel a connection to the Tarot cards, just like wearing a favorite shirt or pair of shoes. There should be a familiar feeling when you pick up your deck of Tarot cards.

  2. Step 2

Cleanse the Tarot cards by wrapping them in the silk cloth. Wrap the quartz crystal in the cloth with the Tarot cards. The crystal is believed to help keep the Tarot deck cleansed as well. It is believed that negative energy can be generated from a Tarot reading. By cleansing the Tarot deck between readings the negative energy is removed. Cleansing is advised by many seasoned Tarot card readers. Certain Tarot card readers also believe the cloth should be black. As Tarot card reading is more of a self magick, the decision is up to you how you wrap your Tarot cards.

  3. Step 3

Place the wrapped Tarot cards under your pillow. This process is believed to let the Tarot reader and the Tarot cards become more in tune with each other as the person sleeps. The number of days you sleep with the Tarot cards under your pillow is, again, your choice. Some Tarot card readers only do this step once. Other people do this step for seven days.

  4. Reading the Tarot Cards

  5. Step 1

Read the basic Tarot guide. This can be the book that comes with your deck of Tarot cards or another book which was bought separately. The Tarot guide book will explain what each of the cards means. The Tarot cards are divided into the Major Arcana cards and the Minor Arcana cards.

  6. Step 2

Become familiar with the Major Arcana cards in the Tarot deck. There are 22 cards in the Major Arcana suit, numbering from 0 to 21. Each one of the Major Arcana deal with Life, Universe and Human Spirituality. The Major Arcana are the Tarot cards which offer an insight into the general life of the "seeker." The seeker is the one requesting a Tarot reading. The Tarot guide book will explain the meaning of each of the Major Arcana cards.

  7. Step 3

Familiarize yourself with the Minor Arcana Tarot cards. There are 56 cards in this section of Tarot cards. The Minor Arcana divide the Major Arcana into more specific areas of the seeker's life. The Minor Arcana are divided into four suits. This is similar to the regular deck of playing cards which contain Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs. Minor Arcana suits are Staffs or Wands, Pennacles or Coins, Cups or Hearts and Swords.

  8. Step 4

Study the Tarot cards to familiarize yourself with the Tarot deck. If you chose a Tarot deck that has pictures, becoming familiar with the Tarot deck may be easier. You can look at the pictures on the Tarot cards to get a general idea of what the Tarot card represents.

  9. Step 5

Refer to the Tarot guide book as often as you need to when you are doing a reading. The more readings you do and the more you handle your Tarot cards, the easier it will be come to understand what the cards are showing you. Many times the Tarot cards may not seem to have any relevance to what you are trying to understand. It is believed that this happens for two reasons. The seeker is not focused or there is another issue being presented which should not be ignored. As you become more familiar with the Tarot cards, you will be able to discern what is happening with the Tarot cards.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can set the mood of the reading by burning an incense and playing meditation music.
  • When reading the Tarot cards is it best to go with first impressions.
  • Do not allow the Tarot cards to dictate what happens in your life. It is easy to get caught up in the reading of the Tarot cards when making life choices. Wise choices are made from knowledge and facts.
