How to Whistle With Hands

Whistling with your hands, hand whistling, hand cooing...we've all seen people do it. The sound is unique and melodious. Accomplished hand whistlers can whistle simple tunes or even use the cooing noise to call birds or other wildlife. This article will show you how to whistle with your hands. The concept behind whistling with your hands is similar to blowing across the top of a bottle opening. When you get the right angle and the right amount of air pressure across the top of the bottle, you hear a whistling noise. Whistling with your hands is based on the same idea.

Instructions

    • 1
      Hands Cupped Together

      Cup your hands together.

    • 2
      Hands Drawn Together

Draw your hands together, leaving a cave-like area between your palms. Aside from the opening where your thumbs are, there shouldn't be any other place where air could seap in or out of your hands.

      Hands Are Ready for Whistling

Bring your thumbs close together, leaving an opening for you to whistle across.

    • 4

Place your hands so that the top of your thumbs are just below your nose. Your upper lip is above the opening between your thumbs. Your lower lip is just below where the opening between your thumbs begins.

    • 5

Gently blow to create a whistling sound.

Tips & Warnings

  • You shouldn't feel air leaking between your fingers or down your forearms.

  • Since everyone's hands, thumbs and lips are unique, it may be necessary to create more space between your thumbs or slowly slide your hands up or down to get your lips (and the airflow) aligned properly.

  • Change the size and shape of the opening between your thumbs to change the sound that you make.

  • Once you get it...you've got it-so keep trying.

i can do this, but then with about 14 different notes just move your left hand up and down, well move your fingers away from your right hand, you can do it with all of your fingers at the same time, which will create a bigger difference between each note, or you can move 2 fingers, or even 1 finger at the same time to create smaller differences between notes.
