Instructions

    • 1

Before beginning to cook, roll a piece of paper into cone. Cut the end of off, and whisk with wirecutters. Next, spread the staves apart. Suspend two wooden spoons out over the side of the kitchen counter top, holding the ends firmly with something heavy on top.

    • 2

Bring together five cups of granulated sugar, one and one-eighth cups of water and one and one-third cups of light corn syrup in a sauce pan on top of stove. Turn burner on medium heat and stir until sugar crystals have disappeared.

    • 3

Increase heat. Place candy thermometer in liquid and cook until the thermometer reaches exactly 320 degrees.

    • 4

Take saucepan away from heat and pour mixture into microwaveable-friendly glass bowl. Add food coloring and flavor drops into the mixture.

    • 5

Coat reconfigured whisk with non-stick cooking spray and immerse in sugar mixture. Hold whisk twelve to eighteen inches above wooden spoons. Move your wrist in a downward motion and let mixture elongate and drip off onto the spoons.

    • 6

Collect cotton candy strands from wooden spoons and roll onto paper cone(s). Eat and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear long sleeves so you can avoid splattering the hot sugar mixture on your arms. Also wear plastic gloves coated with non-stick cooking spray so you can gather cotton candy together and roll onto cone.

  • Always cover the floor beneath your suspended spoons to avoid making a mess.

  • Use microwaveable glass bowl because it will keep sugar mixture at the proper temperature and it also gives you the option of a quick re-heat in the microwave if sugar mixture begins to cool and get thicker and unworkable.

  • Sugar heated to 320 degrees can cause serious burns. Unlike hot water or oil, it will stick to exposed skin. Avoid contact with your skin, and cover up.

  • Never allow pets or small children in the kitchen when making cotton candy.
