How to Repair a Nunchuck String
You don’t have to pay a professional to repair your nunchuck strings. With the right materials, you can make the repair. It is imperative that you fix your nunchucks properly, using only the recommended materials and fastening tightly to avoid possible breakage, resulting in injury.

Remove the existing strings from the nunchucks. If they are glued in, use a small knife or screwdriver to carefully pry the glue away from the nunchuck and then pull the string out, cutting the knots if necessary.

2
Buy a nunchuck repair kit. These are available online and at your local karate studio or martial arts supply store. If you are using your own materials, measure the length of the existing nunchuck strings after you have removed them, and cut your cord to a length 2 inches longer than those you are replacing.

Begin with the looped end of the nunchuck string. Pass it through the top of one nunchuck and pull it through one of the top openings in the side of the nunchuck. Pass the looped end into the bottom opening in the side of the nunchuck (the hole just below the one you brought the loop out of). It will come out the bottom hole in the other side of the nunchuck.

Use the copper wire to thread the remaining ends of the string through the top of the other nunchuck. Thread them through the top hole in one side of the nunchuck as you did before. Pass the strings into the nunchuck through the correlating bottom hole and out the bottom hole in the other side. Thread the ends through the top hole on that side, and finally out the top of the nunchuck.

Remove the copper wire from the ends. Ensure the strings are the length you want them; trim the free ends if necessary. Use a small metal clamp to fasten the ends around the other two strings which are protruding from the top of the nunchuck and use pliers to tighten the clamp. Carefully burn the ends of the string to secure them, then tighten them down into the top of the nunchuck so that the clamp is hidden.

Tips & Warnings
Measure the length of the strings as you tighten each side so that you can be sure it matches the length of any other nunchucks you may own. When swinging doubles it is important that both sets of nunchucks are the same length.
Using a small screwdriver or tube-shaped implement helps in pushing the string through the nunchuck holes.
Pull very hard on both nunchucks when you are done stringing them in order to tighten them securely and test for strength.
