Cat

You have seen human doctors become specialists in nearly every area possible. Now, veterinarians are becoming specialists with specific animals in order to better their care. Cat veterinary specialists are qualified to give special treatments and care to cats. Cat veterinary specialists must be board certified, specialize in feline medicine, have only cats in their practice, and take continuing education classes in feline medicine. Cats cared by cat veterinary specialists don't come in contact with other animals such as dogs and birds, and therefore have more focused care and treatment.

Instructions

    • 1

Earn your board certification in the Feline Practice through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. The Board has plenty of resources to help you prepare for your exams, and then take the tests necessary in order to become board certified in the feline practice.

    • 2

Acquire a residency with a cat-only veterinary practice where you can practice your skills and knowledge as a cat veterinary specialist.

    • 3

Graduate from your residency. Branch out on your own by creating your own cat-only practice or by starting a career as a cat veterinary specialist.

    • 4

Take continuing education classes through a local college or online in feline medicine to keep up with the latest scientific findings.
