Make a Decorative Halloween Mummy

A miniature mummy craft can be made from basic materials such as toilet paper and toilet paper rolls. You can put the mummy outside your door on Halloween evening to thrill your visitors as they come to beg for candy, or give passersby a shock by sticking him in the window. This scary mummy craft is quick to make and is a good project to keep the kids busy while they wait for Halloween.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four recycled toilet paper rolls diagonally at the ends.

    • 2

Place the diagonal ends of the cut rolls to a full toilet paper roll so that the cut rolls are at a downward diagonal angle. The complete roll will be the torso of the Halloween mummy craft, and the cut rolls will become his upper arms and legs. Secure the rolls in place with tape.

    • 3

Add one full toilet paper roll to the end of each of the mummy's limbs. Tape these rolls down as well. Cut down the rolls as necessary to shorten the arms and legs so that they are in proportion to the mummy's body.

    • 4

Tape half a toilet paper roll on the upper torso to create a neck. Place tape over the opening. Cut two strips out of a toilet paper roll. Nest them inside one another until they make a spherical shape. Tape this shape to the neck to create the mummy's head.

    • 5

Begin wrapping the toilet paper around the mummy's body. Twist it as you wrap the craft to more closely mimic a mummy's bandages. Wrap the mummy as many times as is necessary to give the body the right thickness. Make the toilet paper uneven to create depth and texture.

    • 6

Wrap some of the toilet paper around the mummy's body so that it creates the shape of an X across the chest. Secure any loose pieces of toilet paper with tape on the back of the mummy craft.

    • 7

Glue two wiggle eyes on the upper third of the head. Hot glue can be used to attach the wiggle eyes. You must wait a second or two for the glue to cool to avoid melting the eyes. Don't wait too long or the glue will harden, and you'll have to add more to attach the eyes. Ordinary craft glue can also be used, but may result in the wiggle eyes falling off the craft later on.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Halloween mummy craft makes a great candy bowl accessory.

  • Store your mummy to use again next Halloween.

  • Change the pose of your mummy by altering how you cut the diagonal angle of the limbs.

  • The mummy's arms should be about two thirds the length of his legs.
