Paint a Child's Bedroom

Whether you want to repaint your child's bedroom, or are painting it for the first time, the process can be tedious. The best paint jobs in bedrooms are done when you take your time and pay attention to the detail areas. When you have the right supplies and plenty of time, painting your child's bedroom will yield beautiful results.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paint
  • Paint rollers
  • Paint tray
  • Paint brushes
  • Bucket of soapy water
  • Rag
  • Paper towels
  • Stool
  1. Step 1

Clear out the room, if needed. Take out as much stuff as you can and move the rest to the middle of the room. Cover the furniture in the middle with a sheet of plastic to protect it.

  2. Step 2

Wash down walls with soapy water. This is a really important step that many people skip over. The wall should be as clean as possible for the paint to stick really well. If this step is skipped, you may end up with peeling or chipping paint.

  3. Step 3

Tape off the areas you do not want to get paint on, such as the ceiling, trim work and baseboards. This is another tedious job, but a must when you are painting a child's bedroom.

  4. Step 4

Mix up the paint thoroughly. This will help keep an even color throughout, as paint elements tend to separate in the can.

  5. Step 5

Use a paintbrush first and paint all the edges of the child's bedroom. Make sure to do the ceiling edge, the floor edge and any trim areas. Take your time and make sure to use the right size paint brush. A medium 3-inch one should work fine.

  6. Step 6

Pour some paint into the paint tray. Get the roller set up and start rolling the walls. Be careful to not get any paint on the areas you don't want painted, such as the baseboard and ceiling. If you do, wipe it off immediately with a paper towel.

  7. Step 7

Let the paint completely dry. Do not let anyone in the bedroom for one day to ensure the paint will dry thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take your time and pay attention to the details.
  • Don't overload the brush or roller with paint as you might get paint drips that you don't see until it is too late.
