One of the most colorful and interesting birds is the toucan. Although he’s best known for hawking cereal, he can also be used to adorn notebooks, window shades or bedroom walls with a tropical theme. You can draw a toucan with a few easy steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper or other drawing surface
  • Marker, pen or other drawing instrument
  • Paint pens, colored markers, crayons or pastels
  1. Step 1

Draw his eyeball. Toucans are most easily drawn from the side view, which means they only need one eye. Draw a single circle with a small, filled-in circle in its center.

  2. Step 2

Add his beak. Use an elongated triangle connected to his eyeball and curving downward at the tip.

  3. Step 3

Add some head feathers. Include a little jazz on your toucan by placing at least two feathers coming out of his head. A stem with a circle on top serves fine, or you can draw more conventional feathers using a central line with finer lines coming out of it.

  4. Step 4

Illustrate his body. A triangular shape coming down from the head is an easy way to draw a toucan’s body.

  5. Step 5

Throw in a few details. Make at least two stripes running vertically through his beak. Give him little lines at the base of his body to act as his claws.

  6. Step 6

Color him in. Shade in his body in black or use another color. Color in the stripes of his beak in vibrant hues.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you’d rather leave your toucan black and white, draw small designs, like polka dots or stripes, where the color would normally be on his beak.
