How to Make a Pipe From a Soda Can

Save

This scenario may have happened to you before, and you wouldn't be the first: You're at a party and everyone wants to smoke, but no one has a pipe. That's when you have to improvise and become creative. One everyday object that can be turned into an impromptu pipe is a soda can. This seemingly ordinary object has saved the day in many situations.

Things You'll Need

  • 12-oz. soda can
  • Tack or knife
  • Lighter
  • Empty and clean the soda can. Rinse completely and dry it. The pipe won't work if the can is wet or sticky.

  • Create the "bowl." With the can on it's side, mouth opening facing down, put a small indentation in the top toward the back end of the can. This should be deep enough to put whatever you want to smoke in the indentation. It may be more of a "plateau" than an actual concave surface, but as long as your smoking material can sit there without falling off, it will work.

  • Create the "screen." With a sharp tack (or small, sharp knife), poke several holes in the "bowl." Three or four should do. Make them as small as possible, to prevent the smoking material from falling through.

  • Smoke the pipe. Place whatever items you wish to smoke in the bowl and hold the opening up to your mouth. While you inhale, light the lighter and hold it just above the smoking material. The air you draw in will ignite the material in the "bowl" and the smoke will travel through the can and into your lungs.
