How to Make a Dice Costume

Making a costume can be enjoyable and cost effective. Some costumes are simpler to make than others, depending on the shape and materials needed. One of the most simple to make is a dice costume. There is no fabric or sewing required and the materials are very inexpensive. The largest component, the box, may be either purchased or salvaged, and you probably have many of the other items around your house.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a square box (either purchased from a moving supply store or salvaged from a grocery store). If the costume is for a child, use a smaller box. Cut the entire bottom of the box off so it is completely open. Using the packaging tape, tape the top of the box closed from the inside.

    • 2

Paint the outside of the box white with spray paint. Cardboard absorbs paint, so it may take several coats.

    • 3

Cut out 14 black "dots" from the black construction paper. You may use a circle cutter or trace circles onto the paper using objects such as a cup or plate.

    • 4

Cut a hole in the center top of the box. This is the "one" side of the dice, and is where the head will come out of the costume. On dice, opposing sides add up to seven, so place the black dots accordingly. There will be no "six" side, because it would be on the bottom of the box that is open to accommodate the legs.

    • 5

Glue the black dots onto the box. If you would like holes for the arms to extend out of, you may replace a dot on each side with a hole. The dice part of the costume is now finished and ready to wear with black pants and a black shirt. A black hat may be added for extra effect.
