Sew a Pillow Closed

Your pillow project is nearly done. You have stuffed the opening. Now you need to close the open end. It is important to have an even sewing job which keeps the edge from puckering. If you plan to cover the end with cording or lace, you need a smooth finish. Follow the instructions to complete your work.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold cloth edges inward and pin down. Continue with entire opening.

    • 2

Thread needle and knot the end. Insert needle point into the folded edge of one side. Pull thread entirely through. Knot will be hidden inside the cloth.

    • 3

Push needle into center opening of pillow and into the side of the cloth.

    • 4

Catch cloth on opposite side and pull thread through to join.

    • 5

Continue stitching, using small even stitches until you have opening closed up. Insert needle back into cloth and pull through, repeat two more times to secure. Cut thread. Smooth pillow out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure thread blends into cloth color.

  • Use small stitches for a neater appearance.
