How to Choose a Spot in a Home for a Live Christmas Tree

There is nothing quite like having a live Christmas tree for the holidays. There is something special about going to get it and spending time to decorate it. The one thing you absolutely cannot replace is the wonderful smell that wafts through your home during the weeks that the tree is standing. If you are going to get your first live tree for Christmas, here are some tips for deciding where in your home you should put it up. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put it in a room where you will be able to gather with your loved ones. Everyone will not only want to view your tree, but will also want to sit around it and open presents. Having it in your living room or a den is your best option, however, make sure that it is not in the way of people being able to move about the room.

If you don’t have much space, choose a small tree that you can put on a table. There are small, festive trees that are perfect for those that live in an apartment and don’t have a lot of space.

    • 3

Pick a spot that has an outlet close by. Dealing with Christmas lights is enough of a hassle without having to extend the strip of lights so you can reach the outlet. If it’s located close to one, it’s one less problem you have to deal with.

    • 4

Put it in a room or an area that doesn’t have thick, long fibered carpet. Keeping the tree in an area with hardwood floors or short fibered carpet is best. When it is time to remove the tree after the holidays, it is going to be awful trying to get all of the needles out of a carpet that is thick and has long fibers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to have a tree skirt underneath the tree stand. If a little water leaks out from the tree stand, the skirt will sop it up so it won’t damage your floor.

  • Check the water level in your tree stand regularly. Ensure that there's enough water in the stand to prevent the tree from drying out.

  • Do not place your live Christmas tree near a heat vent or radiator.

  • Don’t put your live Christmas tree near anything that is breakable and/or that can be knocked over. If the tree accidentally falls over, it could take out and damage every item in its way. Don’t hesitate to take any breakable items out of the room until after the holiday season if they are going to be in the tree’s path.
