How to Choose a Statue for a Living Room

Adding statues to your living room is a great way to add some beautiful art to your home. Considering how many statues there are in various sizes, designs and styles, it can be a difficult decision to choose the right one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Think about the feel of your living room. If you have a room that is mostly feminine and that is covered in pastel colors, a black statue of a Greek god won’t work. Examine your room before you leave and truly feel the energy. You don’t want to come home with a piece you love, only to find that it doesn’t work.

    • 2

Choose a location and make sure to measure the space. If the statue is too large or too small, no matter how wonderful it is, it will look completely wrong. Bring a tape measure with you to the store if you have to so you can pick out the right size.

    • 3

Consider consequences of buying certain types. If you have rambunctious children and/or pets, a floor statue won’t work, especially in a room that is frequented as often as a living room is. It can easily get knocked over, or the child or pet can get hurt on it. Instead, opt for a statue that you can put on a high shelf in a place where injuries won‘t occur and where it won‘t get knocked down.

    • 4

Select a statue that has meaning. If you are looking at it day after day in a visible spot in your living room, you want to choose one that invokes positive feelings in you and/or has some type of symbolism for you.

    • 5

Opt for choosing a statue that isn’t offensive to others. Art is what you interpret it to be, but some people find that certain statues, such as those that are sexually suggestive, make them uncomfortable. Your guests are most likely going to frequent your living room so keeping art that you love, but that your guests may find offensive, should be kept in other rooms that aren’t visited.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don’t force yourself to buy a statue just because you want one; take your time to pick it out. The best art is chosen when you feel the piece and fall in love with the piece, not when you choose it for the sake of buying it.

  • Be one hundred percent positive that you truly want the specific statue and that it will work well in your living room. Once you buy it, you may not be able to return it.
