A pillow for a loved one's grave can be a long lasting floral piece when done with silk flowers. It can be wired to a florist easel, which are readily available at craft stores, and set firmly in place at the grave site. Used for services or Memorial pieces, the pillow can be made into a heart, shamrock, horseshoe or cross shape. Holiday flowers or colors are also appropriate if the internment is near Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 inch thick craft foam sheet
  • 3 to 4 dozen silk carnations
  • Silk floral sprays if desired
  • Ribbon
  • Floral easel
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • 18 inch florist wire
  1. Step 1

Remove plastic cover from foam. Unfurl a few yards of wide ribbon and fasten to top of foam with greening pins. Fold slightly as you go to create ruffles.

  2. Step 2

Use greening pins to fasten greenery around the foam in front of the ribbon. You can choose to use greenery instead of the ribbon.

  3. Step 3

Cut silk flower stems no longer than 2-inches. Push stems into the foam. Fill in the top surface of the foam.

  4. Step 4

Add in taller sprays of flowers from one corner to the other, if desired.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the floral sprays are at angle on top of the background flowers. Secure by wrapping a piece of 18-inch floral wire around the spray and poke the ends of the wire into the foam and out the back. Wrap the wire ends firmly on the back side of the foam. Add a ribbon bow on a wired stick, if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with the height and positioning of sprays before securing them into the pillow.
  • The foam must be thick and sturdy or the piece will break.
