Decide which herb would suit your herbal foot bath the best. Four common herbs that are used are: Lavender, Sage, Rosemary and Pine and they all have different qualities depending on your needs. Lavender is used as both a restorative and aromatic herb that provides calming and tranquility. Sage is used as an astringent. Rosemary is stimulating and astringent. Pine is used for its stimulating qualities and vitamin C.

Do an allergy test before you go through with your herbal foot bath. Despite the natural qualities of the herbs, they can also have different reactions to the skin. When you decide which herb you would like to use, test it on the forearm to make sure it will be safe to use. Take 1 teaspoon of boiling water and mix it with 1/2 teaspoon of the herb you are going to use. Once it has cooled,, place it on the forearm and cover it with a bandage. Allow 24 hours to pass before you see the results. Allergic reactions include irritation, itching, swelling, or any other skin problem that is out of the ordinary. If there is no reaction, proceed with your foot bath and if there is, choose a different herb and try another allergy test.

    • 3

Place the herbs you would like to use in the herbal foot bath into a 1-quart jar and fill with boiling water. Close the lid securely, and let the herbs steep in the water for at least 20 minutes.

    • 4

Remove the herbs from the water once they are done steeping. You can easily remove them by straining as you pour the herbal water into the foot basin.

    • 5

Add warm water into the foot basin at the temperature that is most comfortable to you. The ideal temperature for a relaxing foot bath is between 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 6

Place your feet into the basin and let them soak for at least 10 minutes. You can also use a pumice stone to smooth away any calluses or dry skin from the feet. Massage your feet to improve circulation and to enhance relaxation.

Pat the feet dry and massage cream into each foot. Place socks on the feet so that the lotion can stay on the skin, making them soft and smooth.
