    • Cooking spray
    • Aluminum foil

Cooking a special treat or dish always means you must first head to the store to get your supplies. Creating these wonderful napkin rings will not be any different. You will first need to get your food items. The dough is very simple. You can use refrigerated dough that comes in the tube. The Pillsbury brand of breadsticks works great for this project. Next, you’ll want to head to the baking section and find the edible glitter in the cake decorating supplies. The color of the glitter is up to you and your occasion. To end your shopping trip, make sure you have cooking spray and aluminum foil.

Creating these napkin rings can be a lot of fun and the first step you need to make in actually assembling them is to prepare the foil. Make sure that you have an entire roll of aluminum foil. You will be surprised by how much you need, especially if you have a large number of guests. First tear large pieces of foil off the roll. Take each piece and roll and form it in your hands until you have created a large stick that is at least an inch and a half across. A good item to compare them to is a cardboard paper towel roll. You can put more than one napkin ring on each stick, probably no more than three. Once the sticks are formed, spray them heavily with the cooking spray.

Preparing the dough will be your next step. Take the bread out of the tube enclosure and separate each breadstick. Place them on a cutting board and cut each breadstick in half, the long way, to create two very skinny breadsticks. Once they are cut out, you can roll them down to size. If you wish you can lay down some flour to roll the dough upon. Roll each piece with your hands until they are down to the size of a pencil or your pinkie finger! Do not cut them in length, you will do that if necessary after you have added them to the foil.

Now you are ready to put together your napkin rings. The easiest way to assemble them is to use the spiraling approach. Take the foil sticks and then take one of your long dough pieces. Take the end of the dough and lay it over the foil. You will want to take the very end and press it down onto the foil slightly in order to hold it in place. After you have done that you will take the dough and begin to spiral it around the foil stick, keeping the dough close together with each spiral. Do this until the dough resembles three rings around the stick. Once you have accomplished this, you can cut the excess dough off. Make sure the end is pressed onto the rest of the napkin ring without harming the look of it. When all of your napkin rings are constructed, you can add the colored edible glitter to each. Make sure they are covered evenly.

Creating each napkin ring will take a while, but that will give you ample time to prepare the oven. Preheat the oven according to the directions on the breadstick container. You will then place each of the foil sticks and napkin rings onto a regular cookie sheet. When you are ready you can place them in the oven and bake them for the time directed on the packaging. Since they are now in smaller amounts of dough, you will need to watch them to make certain they do not burn. After they are slightly browned and finished you can pull them out and let them cool. Make sure they are cooled entirely before removing them from the foil. Of course, once they are finished, you can place them on the napkins you are using!

    Tips & Warnings

    • Don’t limit yourself to just making glittered rings; consider adding other embellishments such as candy stars or sprinkles.

    • Double check to make sure you’ve added cooking spray to the sticks otherwise removing the napkin rings from them will be an unwanted chore!
