Everyone loves to pick out Halloween decorations, but fall decorations can be a bit more difficult. After all, you want decorations that will look just as good in September as they do in November. There are several decorations that look great all season long. Best of all, many of these decorations are simple to set up.

Things You'll Need:

  • Hay
  • Pumpkins
  • Squash
  1. Step 1

Consider what fall represents. What does fall say to you? Is it a time for things to come to an end or the beginning of something new? Is fall a season for harvest or cool nights with crisp air? Knowing what fall means to you can help you better choose decorations that suit your home.

  2. Step 2

Select decorations that suit the entire season. There are Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations. There are also decorations that suit the entire season. Hay and pumpkins can be used throughout the entire season. A display of pumpkins and hay is both simple and beautiful. Decorations like these will look great September through November.

  3. Step 3

Choose items that won’t deteriorate too quickly. Uncut pumpkins and squash will last for several weeks. This is because the weather is cool enough that they don’t spoil as easily. Hay and leaves will also last for several weeks. All of these decorations may seem simplistic, but they represent some of the best things about fall.

  4. Step 4

Keep the decorations simple. Fall decorations don’t have to be over-the-top. That’s what the holidays are for.

  5. Step 5

Find a way to recycle common items into decorations. You can use old clothing to create a scarecrow. You could also recycle an old wreath and some orange lights to create a fall wreath.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place hay and pumpkin decorations under trees so that falling leaves can add another layer of beauty.
  • You can use an old wagon along with pumpkins and hay to create a hayride scene in your front yard.
  • Remember that hay and leaves are flammable. Reserve these decorations for areas where they won’t come in contact with high levels of heat.
