Body jewelry is a fun and exotic way to express your personality through fashion. However interesting it is, body jewelry can be very expensive to buy. There is an alternative though. Body jewelry can be made at home, custom fitted and designed for you personally. Making your own jewelry is the ultimate expression of yourself. These instructions are based on creating jewelry from wood. Wood is perhaps one of the easiest materials to use, as it is fairly simple to manipulate and is inexpensive.
Take the wood that you decide to use and cut it down to a manageable size. This will depend on the piece of jewelry that you are making, however, a typical size should be somewhere around four to six inches. If you want, these instructions can be modified for nearly any material that can be cut with a saw such as plastic.
2
Draw a rough outline of the jewelry that you want to make. For a belly button ring, this will be a spiral shape, larger at one end narrowing at the bottom. An earring can be nearly any shape you want. Cut the design out using a small saw. The smaller the saw, the easier it will be to cut out the shape.
3
Refine the design. Use the files, chisels and drills to shape the piece into the size and shape that you need. Be sure that the piece fits the size hole that you have in your body. If you are using the jewelry as earrings, drill a hole in the top for a metal hanger to be placed. You could even drill a hole to place a glass bead in or some other kind of fancy detail.
4
Use a small chisel to carve out any designs that you want on your wood. Make them a little deeper than you would think they need to be so that they will still appear after sanding. If you want to stain the wood, do it at this time. Just make sure that you are not allergic to the stain.
5
Use the sand paper to sand the wood until it is smooth. Once this is done take the beeswax and spread it on the cloth. Add a few grains of sand and polish the wood until it is smooth and shiny. Once this is done you are ready to wear the jewelry.
