How to Do Easy Poses in Yoga

The Easy Pose, or Sukasana, is a basic yoga pose that is practiced in most beginning classes.It is a seated pose in which your hips are higher than your knees. This calming pose strengthens the back and the legs; practicing it will improve your posture and also help you meditate.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yoga mat
  1. Step 1

    Sit on your mat with your legs extended in front of you.

  2. Step 2

    Fold a blanket and position it under your sitting bones. Your hips will be higher than your knees.

  3. Step 3

    Cross your legs. Focus on bringing your knees as close to the floor as possible.

  4. Step 4

    Breathing deeply, bring your back into proper alignment. Imagine your spine as a straight line ending in the crown of your head. Spread your shoulders wide and breathe into your back.

  5. Step 5

    Hold the posture for 1 to 3 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid this pose if you have severe knee pain.
