The Snake Pose, or Nagasana, is a basic yoga pose that is part of any beginner or intermediate class. This pose strengthens the shoulders and tones the buttocks. It is an excellent pose to perform to release tension in the lower back and afford a full-body stretch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yoga mat
  1. Step 1

Lie on your mat on your stomach, with your hands underneath your shoulders. Feel your body stretch from your feet to the crown of your head.

  2. Step 2

Press the tops of your feet into the mat.

  3. Step 3

    Inhale and straighten your arms.

  4. Step 4

Hold the pose for approximately 30 seconds.

  5. Step 5

On an exhale, lower to the mat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your shoulders should be spread wide and not hunched around your ears. Focus on your breathing and spreading your upper back throughout the pose.
  • Avoid this pose if you are pregnant.
