Step 1
Know the games in which you're interested. Each system has games which are only available on its platform. Do you enjoy Mario and his continuing adventures? Check out the Nintendo Wii. Do you want to revel in Solid Snake's last mission? Look for the Playstation 3. Do you want to put on Master Chief's armor? Then the Xbox 360 is up your alley.
-
Step 2
Compare prices of each system. Take a look at your local electronics store to see what sale they're offering this week. Typically, the basic model of each system will run you between $300 to $500 depending on what else is offered within the purchase. Another big issue with pricing is availability. Some systems such as the Wii have been struggling with keeping the product in stock.
-
Step 3
Read reviews of each system. Read up on technical aspects and gamer reviews of each system (see Resources). Speak with staff at your local Gamecrazy as they are typically experienced gamers and may have more answers to your questions. Typically, all the systems rate close to one another with the XBox 360 having the best graphics but the Playstation 3 offers Blu-Ray capability. The Wii however is the only one with the fully interactive "nun-chuk" system of controller.
-
Step 4
See what deals are available with each purchase. Depending on time of the year (Christmas seems to bring out the best deals), there will be added bonuses with each buy. Determine which gives you the longer warranty on the product, which gives you online access and for how long and see if there is a free game or game discount being offered in store.
-
Step 5
Look into the future of the consoles. Consoles may look like the end of the gaming line but they have futures ahead of each of them. In the months to come, each will offer larger hard drives, newer online features, upgrades to controllers and additional game titles. With some research to their own sites (see Resources) you can find out what's coming up in the near and distant future.
