How to Set Line Spacing Using Open Office

When writing for work or school, you may need to change the document from single to double-spaced. This will put a space between each line of the text, making it easier to read. This is the correct format for many publications, acceptable everywhere from universities to businesses. Make this change to line spacing while using Open Office.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new document so a blank page appears in Open Office. If you want to double space existing text, highlight the text that you want to change.

    • 2

Click on the “Format” tab at the top of the page. A scroll down list will appear directly under the format tab.

    • 3

Scroll down using your mouse to where it says “Paragraph” and click on it. A pop up box will appear in the middle of your screen.

    • 4

Locate “Line Spacing” in the pop up box.

    • 5

Click on the drop down box directly under it. In the drop down box you will see six different options for spacing.

    • 6

Click on “Double” for double spacing your text.

    • 7

Click “OK” at the bottom of the pop up box.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have already written your text and would like to change the entire document to double space, use “Ctrl A” on your keyboard to highlight the entire text.

This was very helpful. I have a class dedicated to the Linux OS (Fedora 13) and our teacher wants answers and arguments written in Open Office. Thank you.
