1
Prepare cake mix as directed. Chocolate or orange cake mixes are popular Halloween choices.
-
2
Put prepared cake batter into molds. Good choices for Halloween cake molds include pumpkin shapes, bat shapes, ghosts and skull shapes. You can also bake a simple round cake and decorate it accordingly.
-
-
3
Let cake cool completely before frosting.
-
4
Apply orange and/or black frosting with spatulas. Orange frosting can be used over a pumpkin shaped cake. You can also add green frosting for a stem.
-
5
Frost a skull-shaped cake with white frosting. Add black frosting for the eyes, nose and teeth.
-
6
Add black frosting to bat shaped cakes. Dots of white frosting can be used for eyes.
-
7
Get creative if you bake a round cake. You can frost it in orange or black or both. Add black and orange candies to the tops and sides as well as Halloween-themed decorations. Good choices for cake toppers include skeletons, witches, bats, tombstones, ghosts and fake eyeballs.

Create your own shape cakes if you can't find molds in the shape you want. Tombstones can be made with a square or rectangular cake pan and a round cake pan. After you bake a square or rectangular cake and a round one, cut the round one in half. Apply frosting to one side of the square cake or one end of the rectangular cake. Then stick the straight side of the half round cake to it. Then frost the entire cakes.
