Halloween is just around the corner, and it is time to start thinking about a Halloween costume for your child. If your child likes animals, and you are a crafty parent, here is a simple way to make a moose costume for Halloween. The materials are things you likely have around the house, and others are cheap enough to buy at craft supply stores or discount retail stores. Do give yourself some time to make this costume.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dark brown sweat suit (velour or cotton)
  • Two wire hangers
  • Bike helmet with air vents on the side
  • Four light brown felt squares, large
  • Dark brown felt squares, large
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  1. Step 1

Bend the wire hangers to look like moose antlers. Do not undo the wire hangers during this process. You will need the hanger hooks to stay intact.

  2. Step 2

Stick the hook of each hanger into the bike helmet through the air vents on the sides. This will secure the hangers in place.

  3. Step 3

Cut pieces of light brown felt to match the shape of the moose antlers. You want two pieces of felt for each antler (a front and back piece). You may want to outline the shape of the antlers onto the felt pieces using a marker and then cut them out.

  4. Step 4

Make the felt pieces extend at least a 1/2 inch longer than the bends in the hangers so you have room to glue the front and back pieces together. Glue these pieces together with a hot glue gun.

  5. Step 5

Cover the helmet with a large piece of dark brown felt. Use a hot glue gun to hold the felt in place. Trim the felt where necessary to make sure it conforms to the helmet.

  6. Step 6

Place the helmet on your child's head. Snap the helmet into place. Now you have a moose head.

  7. Step 7

Have your child wear a dark brown sweat suit. Velour is good for a furry appearance, but regular cotton will still work very well.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use child sized hangers for the antlers for small children so they won't be too heavy.
