How to Boil Green Peanuts

Things You'll Need

• Salt
• Water
• 4 to 5 pounds of peanuts (with shell)
• Measuring cup
• Boiling pot

Instructions

1. Get roughly 4 to 5 pounds of peanuts with the shells still on.

2. Wash all the peanuts in cold water until the water runs clear. Let the peanuts soak for 30 minutes in clean, cold water.

3. Place the peanuts in a pot. Be sure that the pot is large enough to hold the peanuts and water that covers them completely.

4. For each gallon of water that you must use to cover the peanuts completely, add 1 cup of salt.

5. Cook the peanuts on high heat for 5 to 7 hours. The cooking time depends on the maturity of the peanuts you have purchased or harvested.

• Green peanuts are not actually green. The name refers to freshly harvested peanuts. It takes about 90 to 100 days of growth to prepare a peanut to be boiled.
