How to Crop Images in iPhoto

iPhoto is a great program that is standard on Apple computers. This software is compatible with almost any digital camera, making it easy to upload your digital photos and do simple edits on them. Cropping a photo in iPhoto is an easy process that can be followed by virtually anyone, and is a great way to remove any element of a photo that you don't want others to see, such as the messy parts of a room. Follow these steps to crop your own photos in iPhoto.

Instructions

    • 1
Pictures of the family pet are great occasions for cropping, since pets seem to love the messiest parts of the home.

      Open iPhoto.

    • 2
The cat is cute; the mess on the floor is not.

Select a picture from your iPhoto library that you would like to crop, either to remove something from the shot or to zoom in on a particular part of it.

Create a duplicate of your photo, in case you want the original for something else later on. To do this, go to the Photos menu and click on "Duplicate."

    • 4
There are now two versions of the photo you selected.

Double-click on one of the duplicated photos that you have decided to crop.

    • 5
The clearest part of the photo is the portion that will be retained once you crop the image.

Select the portion of the picture that you would like to retain: Place a rectangle around it by clicking and dragging your cursor.

    • 6
Notice how the "Crop" button at the bottom of the iPhoto screen is now lit up.

Release your mouse button once you have selected the portion of the picture you would like to keep.

    • 7
You've done away with the mess on the floor, and only the cute cat is left.

Click the "Crop" button at the bottom of the iPhoto screen and wait for your photo to change.

    • 8
Beware: Your cropping will be automatically saved when you return to your library, unless you undo.

Click back to your library and iPhoto will save your changes for you automatically. If you aren't happy with the results of your cropping, go to the Edit menu and click on "Undo" at the very top to stop the cropping from being saved.

There he is, minus the mess.

Check in your library to see your newly cropped photo.
