Instructions

    • 1
      Sturdy eye makeup primer.

Apply eyeshadow primer onto clean lids. Groom and trim brows to frame your eyes and face. Fill brows in with an brow powder or pencil to fill sparseness and give definition.

Select three classic eyeshadow shades: One to highlight, another as a midtone base and a third to create a smoky effect. Concentrate on the ball of the eye, moving from the lash line to the crease. Use an eyeshadow brush with a small flat head for precision. Dip a blending brush into your midtone eyeshadow and tap off excess powder. Using a windshield wiper motion, go back and forth over the crease of your eye. This should create a gradated effect, as if the darker shadow were fading. Smooth highlight color on your browbones.

Clean off your blending brush. Dip the brush in to the blush you are using and again, tap off any excess powder. You only want a minute amount of product for this step. Run the brush over the crease of your eye. This should be just enough for your blush to blend the midtone and accent the overall eye makeup. Blend away any hard edges and lines.

Line eyes with a creamy highly pigmented liner in black or a deeper version of the darkest color you are using. Work the color into both the top and bottom lash lines. If the line is too strong, gently smudge with a cotton swab.

    • 5

Curl eyelashes with a waterproof mascara. Opt for a mascara that offers both a lengthening and thickening formula. Stick with black to go with your smoky eyes, focusing more on top lashes than lower ones to prevent a bottom-heavy look. To open eyes, apply a few false individual lashes only in the center of your lash line over and slightly to the sides of your pupil. Depending on how wide your eyes are, you only need two or three evenly spaced individual clusters. To merge your natural and false lashes, apply mascara to the portions of the fake lashes that protrude.

Make sure that you clean up any product fallout. You don't want any dark smudges under your eyes to spoil photos of you on your special day. Pat your foundation on underneath your eyes and gently blend over the area with a clean makeup sponge to erase any messes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Unless you are having an unconventional type of ceremony, now is not the time to play with wild or trendy colors. Flesh tones and neutrals are a safe bet. Ooptimize classic eyeshadows by selecting highly pigmented formulas that really show up when applied. You can also add a subtle sparkle to your look by using a highlighter that has a small amount of very finely milled shimmer in it.

  • Allow the focus to stay on your eyes by choosing soft shades for your cheeks and lips. Avoid shimmer in these areas as well, although gloss on light lips is permissible.

  • The earlier it is in the day, the lighter the smoky effect you should opt for. The lighting differs at various hours and is softer in the early day. High-drama makeup lovers would be better suited to get married in between late afternoon to evening for best photo results.
