Step 1
Have a strategic plan and review it often. Things to consider: How are you going to acquire new customers and retain existing customers? How are you going to promote your business? What services are you going to offer?
-
Step 2
Make sure you have the right equipment. Internet access, telephone, computer and printer are a must. Other items to consider include: fax machine, scanner, digital camera, office suite package etc...
-
Step 3
Decide what services you are proficient in and make a list for your clients. Services can include: word processing, mail merge and mailing, procedure documentation, recruitment services, newsletters, flyers, brochures, websites, etc..
-
Step 4
Consider working with a subcontractor in areas you are not familiar with. This allows you to offer your clients one stop shopping.
-
Step 5
Make sure work is completed in a timely fashion. Remember to treat your customers how you would expect to be treated.
-
Step 6
Always be marketing yourself and your services. Consider speaking at rotary club luncheons and small business association meetings for free publicity.
