If you're ever stranded somewhere without a cup, you can make one as long as you have a square piece of paper. Making an origami cup is a clever way to impress your friends and quench your thirst.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Piece of paper (square)
  • Ruler or straight edge
  • Flat table or work surface
  1. Step 1

Lay the origami paper on a table or work surface, with the colored or patterned part facing down. As you look down upon the paper, it should be rotated, so that it looks more like a diamond. The corners should be at north, south, east and west.

  2. Step 2

Bring the bottom (south) corner up to the top, so that it looks like a triangle with the patterned part of the paper showing.

  3. Step 3

Press the fold firmly with a ruler or straight edge. Begin in the center and press your way out to the edge (east and west).

  4. Step 4

Bring the right (west) corner of that triangle up to the edge of the triangle (northeast). The angle where they meet should be at about 90 degrees.

  5. Step 5

Open the top of the cup by folding one of the north layers down over the same seam where the triangle was folded in. Press the fold so that it is firm.

  6. Step 6

Turn the cup over and repeat with the other side. Bring the side in and then fold the last layer of the top over it.

  7. Step 7

Open the cup and press the bottom flat. Fill it with water, or use it as a vase to hold dried flowers or small loose objects such as pins or seashells. Since it's paper, it won't last forever, but you can keep it in your pocket for a quick drink.
