Somewhere in the course of your child’s life, they will depend on a sippy cup. The transition from a bottle to a sippy can happen anytime from about 11 months on up. Your child will use a sippy cup until she is ready to move onto an adult cup. This is a great time of growth in your child’s life. As with many items that your toddler uses on a daily basis, it is important to keep a sippy cup clean. As children grow, their messes tend to get bigger. This is a basic how to clean a sippy cup. The steps in this article are focused on hot clean the sippy cup when you do not have a dishwasher available to you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Collect all of your toddler’s sippy cups from around the house. It is good to have a set amount of sippy cups that you keep for your child. This is important so that one sippy cup does not go missing for any length of time. Your toddler probably has a good throwing arm these days. Pair that with the fact that she is always on the run and soon her sippy cups will find their way into places you wouldn’t even imagine.

  2. Step 2

Fill your kitchen sink with hot water and dish soap. You want to use the hottest water that you can get out of your faucet. The hot water will help to kill germs and bacteria that collect on your toddler’s sippy cups.

  3. Step 3

Open up each sippy cup and empty out any remaining juice or milk that may be in it. Remove the plastic valve that keeps the milk from spilling out of the spout of the sippy cup. Place all of the sippy cup parts in the sink of hot water. Allow the sippy cups to soak for about 5 minutes. This will loosen any liquid that may have set on the sippy cups.

  4. Step 4

The best tool to use to clean a sippy cup is a bottle brush. The bottle brush is designed in just the right size to fit down into the sippy cup to clean it out. Place the larger part of the bottle brush down into the sippy cup and rub it around the sides of the sippy cup. Do this a couple of time to clean the inside of the sippy cup. Use the nipple brush that is attached to the bottle brush to clean the lid of the sippy cup and the plastic valve of the cup. This brush will allow you to get down into the spout of the sippy cup to get all of the dirt out of it.

  5. Step 5

Allow the all of the parts of the sippy cup to dry completely. Put your toddler’s sippy cups back together and prepare for the next go round.
