how to determine your paper feed jamming problems with a printer or copier. how to clean these parts or to determine that they need to be replaced.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • alcohol (rubbing not drinking)
  • good clean rag ( one that does not fall apart or leaves lint)( an old piece of bed sheet works great)
  1. Step 1

First install new paper in tray and do not exceed tray limit.

  2. Step 2

second locate the paper feed tires, tires are grey or black and they contact the paper or will contact the paper when the machine energizes to feed the paper.

  3. Step 3

third take a flashlight and closely look at the tires to see if they are shinny or dirty from doing two sided prints or copies. never force the tires to turn, as this may damage the unit.

  4. Step 4

if tires are shinny or dirty clean with rag and alcohol (put alcohol on rag only). new tires will have a texture to them when you shine a light on them. if dirty only, clean with light pressure. if the tires are shinny, clean with more pressure. retest and re-clean if needed.

  5. Step 5

if cleaning the tire several times and it is still shinny and won't feed the paper, you will need new tires.

Tips & Warnings
  • you can watch the paper as it feed with your flashlight. if you see the tire turn and the paper barely moves, you have a dirty or worn tire.
  • if the tire does not want to turn, clean what you can and make one print so tire will move to a new spot.( half circle tires always stop in the same spot.
  • never ever force feed tires to turn, some are held at the location by a lever or gear.
