How to Cook a Chuck Roast

Chuck roast is one of my favorites to cook. It is full of flavor and, when cooked right, is tender and juicy. There are many ways to cook this cut of meat but here is my favorite way. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 4 to 5 lb chuck roast
  • 1 can of good beer
  • 2 cans golden mushroom soup
  • dutch oven
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder

Instructions

    • 1

      Season meat with seasoning listed. Give a good coating of each.

      Brown roast in skillet with a little oil.

    • 3

      Put roast in dutch oven. Add can of beer. Cook for two hours at 250 degrees.

      Add two cans of soup. Cook for 1 more hour at 250*. Then turn the oven to 375 degrees for the last hour to cook.

      When done, remove from oven and lift roast to a serving dish. Pour juice into a pot and turn the stove on med high heat. Mix 1 to 2 tbsp of corn starch with a little cold water and add to juice to thicken for gravy.

      Slice roast and serve with gravy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a good premium beer to enhance the flavor of the meat. The beer will also help tenderize the meat.

    It sure would work in a crock pot! A dutch oven is an oval shaped roasting pan with a lid.
