Decide what theme is best for your event. Examples: Luau; Fiesta; 2nd Prom;

Visit local party stores; Visit party supply web sites; Look through catalogs to gather ideas and purchase items(decorations and music)that coincide with your theme.

Plan for menu to with your theme. Example: If Fiesta theme, have quesidillas, burritos, nachos, and so forth.

Ask guests to dress in accordance with theme.

Tips & Warnings
Visit stores in off-seasons, you may be able to find items on clearance.
Close-out stores like Big Lots and Garden Ridge are great stores to visit.

Parties are fun in their own right, but when there's a theme it adds a level of enjoyment that takes it up a notch.
