Raising four children, I can't tell you how many times one of my children came to me at the last minute frantic because they had not figured out what to turn in as a science fair project.

Here is an easy project they can create with little or no help.

Things You'll Need

  • a balloon
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • funnel
  • 5 tbsp baking soda
  • narrow necked bottle

Instructions

    • 1
      Vinegar from www.simplythrifty.com

Take your 1/2 cup vinegar and pour it into your bottle.

    • 2

Insert your funnel into the balloon pulling the neck of the balloon over the neck of the funnel.

    • 3
      Baking Soda @ www.hondahacker.com

Pour the 5 tbsp baking soda into the balloon.

    • 4

Pinch the balloon closed and then carefully lift to attach to the bottle stretching the neck over the opening. As the baking soda empties into the vinegar the fizzing and foaming creates a chemical reaction which will slowly blow the balloon up. The chemical reaction creates a release of carbon dioxide gas.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have the child/ren look up baking soda on the internet and find out how baking soda is used to create a fire extinguisher
