How to Plan a Paranormal Halloween Party
Halloween is a fun time of year for people of all ages, and the classic Halloween costume party is as much of a tradition as trick-or-treating. Making your Halloween party stand out from the spooky pack means being a little more creative, and providing your guests with something fun and unusual to do besides eat and drink. The interest in the paranormal is at an all-time high, and the multitude of television shows like "Ghost Hunters" and "Paranormal State" have brought things like psychic mediums and electronic voice phenomena to a whole new audience. Make your Halloween party a real treat for your friends by making it a paranormal extravaganza. Here’s how. Does this Spark an idea?

Planning Ahead
-
1
Find at least four “readers” of different types. The key to having a really successful party is providing some reputable psychic readers for your guests. Go to your local New Age shop and ask for some referrals for a psychic medium, a tarot-card reader, a palm reader and maybe even an aura reader. Book each reader for a specific block of time during your party to provide continuous reading opportunities for your guests.
-
2
Plan to have each reader in a different quiet area of your home, if possible. Look at the layout of your home and assign each reader to his own room or area. Include any necessary equipment, such as a card table or voice recorders.
-
-
3
Create sign-up sheets for each reader. Ask the readers what the length of an average reading might be and use that information in creating the sheets. Put the sheets out on your food table or in another special area so guests know they need to reserve a slot when they arrive.

Make your invitations. Choose a paranormal-themed photo or clip art--like a gypsy with a crystal ball or some tarot cards--and make it clear that your Halloween party is something special. Invite your guests to dress up as their favorite TAPS member (from the show "Ghost Hunters") or as a stereotypical psychic to join in the fun.
The Party

5
Have some paranormal shows playing in one area as background. You can record favorite episodes of "Ghost Hunters" or "Most Haunted," or you can have "Poltergeist" or "The Amityville Horror" playing in a separate room for the preteens.
-
6
Provide some books and tests for guests to “play” with. You could set up a computer with online psychic tests (see the links in Resources) or provide pendulums or Ouija boards.
-
7
As the party winds down, ask your psychic medium to lead a séance for your group. Be sure to have plenty of candles burning for a greater effect.
-
8
Complete the paranormal motif by making your food as fun as everything else. Decorate brownies with Rune symbols (see the link in Resources for symbols), order special fortune cookies for the event, or just serve up some ghostly-white dip.

Tips & Warnings
Ask your friends to learn to read tarot cards, runes or palms to help out at the party and cut costs.
Get referrals for your psychic readers. Nothing is more discouraging then finding out that all your guests got the same exact reading from a paid psychic.
