How to Embellish a Greeting Card With Stitching
Nothing looks more homemade than an item with delicate stitches to form a pretty shape or pattern. Free hand sewing can be tough though, unless you are really skilled at it. Now you can easily do stitching to enhance your homemade greeting cards without having to free hand sew or even pull out your sewing machine. Companies involved in the scrap booking industry are making it easy for you. Using a simple template and piercing tool you can now stitch on cards by following a pattern.
Things You'll Need
- Blank card
- Embroidery floss in your choice of color
- Piercing tool
- Template with the design of your choice
- Needle

Thread the needle and place your template on your blank card, securing it with paperclips.

Use your piercing tool to make holes on your card by following the holes on the template. Once you have completed each hole, remove the template. The holes left on the card should be in the design that is on the template.

Use your needle, coming up through the first whole in your card and then going down into the next hole with the thread. Continue going up and down until your completed the entire design.

Place a matching piece of paper on the inside flap of the card to cover the stitching once you open it.

Tips & Warnings
To help make threading your needle easier, tear off a thin strip of paper and fold it in half. Place the paper over your thread and then stick the fold of the paper through the needle. Your thread will come with it easily.
If you don't have a template, you can either create a design freehand or by using a sewing machine.
Use store bought cards and stich around the existing designs to embellish them further. However, if you use a store bought card to enhance, you can only give these to family and friends. You can't sell them because of copyright infringement.
Do not use tape to secure your template to your card because it will rip the paper when you remove it.
