Step 1
Talk to your child and ask her important questions about her desire to collect porcelain dolls, antique dolls, or porcelain doll figurines. Her answers will give you a lot of insight on whether she's ready to start a collection, yet. Questions you can ask include:
Why does she want to collect dolls? What does she plan to do with them once she has them? How will she take care of them? Will she play with them? -
Step 2
If your child plans to play with collectible dolls or antique dolls, it's probably not a good idea for her to begin collecting valuable dolls just yet.
-
Step 3
If your child is mature and responsible enough to care for antique dolls, porcelain dolls, or other collectible dolls, ask her how she plans to pay for her new hobby? Your child should know up front that you're not made out of money and that she'll have to work and contribute money toward her hobby.
-
Step 4
Help your child discover ways she can earn the money for the collectible dolls she wants to add to her collection.
-
Step 5
Help your child develop her hobby by learning all there is to know about the type of collectible dolls she wants to collect, where to find them, how to judge their condition, and so on.
