Step 1
Choose generic cards that can be used for any occasion. Cards should be blank inside with ample room for writing. The outside can either have a simple picture or the words "Thank You" embossed or printed on its cover. You can find simple cards at Walgreen's, Hallmark, or stationery stores.
-
Step 2
Write your draft before putting pen to cardstock. Your words can be simple and to the point. After your greeting, your first sentence should express thanks for the specific gift. Your second sentence should offer what you like aobut the gift, or how it will be used. Don't be afraid to use adjectives (descriptive words).
Example:
Dear Uncle Larry,
Thank you so much for the giant, blue piggy bank. I'm sure Johnny will use it once he is big enough to have an allowance! -
Step 3
Next, let the person know that you felt their gift was a thoughtful gesture, and at the same time, name the specific gift item and express how it is/or will be enjoyed. Again, don't be stingy with the adjectives. This shows that you noticed details about the gift that was made or chosen.
Example:
Your gift was very thuoghtful and I am sure Johnny will put his huge piggy bank to good use! -
Step 4
Once you are satisfied with your message, write it legibly onto your actual "Thank You" card, preferably in pen.
-
Step 5
Next, sign the card as you would a letter, with: Sincerely, Love, Yours Truly, etc.
-
Step 6
Finally, address your envelope, put a stamp on it, and mail your "Thank You" card right away. You'll want to respond to your gift-giver as soon as possible so that they know you recieved their present, and are pleased with it.
Happy Writing!!!
