It is up to you were you get the dog it could be a shelter or you a buy one from a pet shop.

You should do some research on the type of dog you want. For example if you have a family with kids it is not a good idea to get a do from the terrier group due to they are very independent and like to cause trouble they even may get your kids in trouble. For a family with kids a good type of dog would be a herding dog or a guard dog. They will protect your kids and your kids will enjoy to play with them since herding dog have a lot of energy.

Once you decided the type of dog you want you go to the pet shop or shelter and pick one. Don't forget their personality could change due to change in the environment. So pick one the best suits you personality and once you take the special dog home, have fun.
