Mounting a horse is an important step for horseback riding. If you know the steps it's easy to get on a horse or pony.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a horse or pony
  • a steping stool[if your horse is too tall to get on whithout it]
  • a bridle, bit, reins, and a saddle or bareback pad on your horse
  1. Step 1

First,if you need the steping stool take it next to your horse near it's whithers on the side that your the most comfortable on. [for me it is the left side]

  2. Step 2

Next, take your left hand and grasp hold of the reins.

  3. Step 3

    Now,step up on the stool.

  4. Step 4

Then, take your left and right hand [still holding on to the reins]and grip them on his/her whithers.

  5. Step 5

Next,[while you still have grip of his/her whithers] jump up and swing your right leg over the top of the horse realeasing your hands from his/her whithers. [make sure you're on the left side of the horse or you'll end up backwards][don't let go of the reins]

  6. Step 6

Now, get yourself comfortable in your saddle or bareback pad.

  7. Step 7

Finally, you're ready to ride! Enjoy the ride!!

on 3/2/2009 Your right, it's always a good idea to grip the whithers and not the saddle. The saddle can slip. Good advice...5
