Curious to know what that Chinese AOL website says? Want to translate your English advertisement material or literature into other languages to cater to different communities? Or perhaps you simply want to write a thank you note in Italian. Google offers a free tool to fill your needs to translate text. You can click the images in this article to enlarge them for a better view.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by going to the Google translation tool at http://translate.google.com/ (see Resources, below, for a clickable link).

  2. Step 2

    TO TRANSLATE TEXT

Say you want to learn how to write “thank you” in Italian. To do that, in the “Original text” box, type in the words "thank you" (without the quotes).

  3. Step 3

Beneath the text box, click on the first button to pick the language you used, in this case, English. Click the second button to pick the language to which you want the text translated – Italian. Lastly, click the translate button and on the right side of the screen, you will see the translation, “grazie.”

  4. Step 4

    TO TRANSLATE A WEB PAGE

In the “Translate a Web Page” section, enter the URL for the website that you want to translate. You can translate from English to another language, or translate from another language to English. In this example, we will translate the Chinese AOL website (http://chinese.aol.com/) to English by copying the URL from the Chinese AOL website and pasting it into the box on the Google translate page. (Or, you could type the URL into the box.)

  5. Step 5

Click the button to pick Chinese from the list as the source language; click the second button to pick English as the language you want to read; and then click the translate button.

  6. Step 6

After a few seconds, the website will appear in English. At left, you can see an excerpt from the Chinese website after it was translated to English.
