How to Make Mom's Cornbread

My Mom makes the best cornbread. It's so moist and sweet, it's delicious with just a glass of milk.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 teas. baking powder
  • 1/2 teas. salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup oil
  1. Step 1

    In bowl, mix the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

  2. Step 2

    Pour in the milk and buttermilk.

  3. Step 3

    Add the beaten egg and oil.

  4. Step 4

    Pour the batter into a greased black iron skillet. Bake in a pre heated 350 degree oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make cornbread muffins by baking in a 12 hole muffin pan.
  • You may use a regular baking pan instead of the skillet.

on 8/25/2008 Sounds good. We traditionally have cornbread that isn't sweet but every now and then I throw this is. Okay, I have to admit, the sweet ones aren't homemade but rather Jiffy brand! Don't tell anyone though! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
