My Mom makes the best cornbread. It's so moist and sweet, it's delicious with just a glass of milk.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 teas. baking powder
  • 1/2 teas. salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup oil
Step1
In bowl, mix the corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Step2
Pour in the milk and buttermilk.
Step3
Add the beaten egg and oil.
Step4
Pour the batter into a greased black iron skillet. Bake in a pre heated 350 degree oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make cornbread muffins by baking in a 12 hole muffin pan.
  • You may use a regular baking pan instead of the skillet.

on 9/3/2008 Sounds quick and easy, I add stevia or honey to sweeten my corbread.

on 8/25/2008 Sounds good. We traditionally have cornbread that isn't sweet but every now and then I throw this is. Okay, I have to admit, the sweet ones aren't homemade but rather Jiffy brand! Don't tell anyone though! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
