Kids should be educated about how to live a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle which includes nutrition, managing stress and regular physical exercise. While moderate stress is normal, the demands of school life can cause extra burden and lead to stress overload for students. Stress in kids can manifest as symptoms of nervousness, stomachache, trouble sleeping, anger or temper tantrums and infections.



Nutrition is a vital part of a child's developmental growth and studies show that many adult conditions, for example, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity and cancer often result from nutrition deficiencies in childhood.

    Nutrition and a healthy well-balanced diet is an important component to ensuring a healthy, happy child. Adding multivitamins as additional supplements to the child's diet is a great idea since kids can be picky about what they eat or might require special diets. Most often kids are too busy to eat properly due to erratic or hectic school and personal schedules, so supplements can make up the daily recommended intake vitamins and minerals. Remember, each age group has special nutrient requirements that are targeted to that specific group.

    Teens need more calcium and iron in their diets than adults to ensure they develop strong bones and teeth. It is recommended a teenager get approximately 1300 mg/day of calcium with added magnesium and Vitamin D. Certain studies have shown some correlation between children with ADHD and deficiency in Omega-3s. Folate, zinc and magnesium are important vitamins and minerals to add to the child's diet to maintain optimum brain function.

    It has been estimated that over 20 million school days are lost annually due to the common cold. The Centers for Disease Control say that washing hands can significantly decrease the risks of getting sick. Educate the kids about washing hands properly with soap and water during the day, especially after using the bathroom and before eating meals. Include natural hand sanitizers, wipes or gels in the school backpack and lunch box.
