Makes 1 9-inch pie

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 envelope Unflavored Gelatine
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup icy cold evaporated milk, whipped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 9-inch baked pie shell
  • Whipped Cream
  1. Step 1

    Mix gelatine, sugar and salt thoroughly in a saucepan.

  2. Step 2

    Beat egg yolk and milk together.

  3. Step 3

    Add to gelatine mixture. Add chocolate.

  4. Step 4

    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted. do not boil.

  5. Step 5

    Remove from heat and beat with a rotary beater, or immersion blender until smooth.

  6. Step 6

    Place pan in bowl of ice and water or chill in refrigerator, stirring occasionally, until mixture mounds slightly when dropped from spoon.

  7. Step 7

    Fold in whipped evaporated milk and vanilla.

  8. Step 8

    Turn into a baked pie shell and chill until firm.

  9. Step 9

    Serve topped with whipped cream. Garnish with shaved chocolate if desired.
