Remember the gelatine salad molds from the 1960s when you were a kid, or Grandma used to make! You can still recreate them yourself, and are still a popular favorite when served at buffets, picnics & brunches! Super Easy to make, also!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 envelope Unflavored Gelatine
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cups water, divided
  • 1/4 cup vinegar or lemon juice
  • 2 cups diced tart apples
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 4-cup mold or individual molds
  1. Step 1

Mix gelatine, sugar and salt thoroughly in a small saucepan.

  2. Step 2

Add 1/2 cup of the water.

  3. Step 3

Place over low heat, stirring constantly until gelatine is dissolved.

  4. Step 4

Remove from heat and stir in remaining 1 cup water, vinegar or lemon juice.

  5. Step 5

Chill mixture to unbeaten egg white consistency.

  6. Step 6

Fold in diced apples, chopped celery and chopped nuts.

  7. Step 7

Turn into a 4-cup mold or individual molds and chill until firm.

  8. Step 8

Unmold by dipping mold in warm water to the depth of the gelatine. Loosen around edge with tip of a paring knife.

  9. Step 9

Place serving dish on mold and turn upside down. Shake, holding serving dish tightly to mold. Garnish with fruit.
