Control Dust Mites in Your Home

Studies have shown that the dust mite lives in areas in our home that are moist and warm. Forty thousand, dust mites account for one ounce of mattress dust. They descend on our bedding because when we sleep our bodies shed skin, this skin is nourishment to the dust mite. Dust Mites are not necessarily harmful, unless you are allergic to them. Symptoms for allergic reaction would be runny nose, itchy eyes, asthma, or a rash. If you are allergic to dust mites then you should follow these steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mattress covers
  • Furniture polish that controls dust and allergens
  • Vacuum to remove dust mites
  1. Step 1

Remove all bedding and wash it in hot water. Then dry it in high heat.

  2. Step 2

Purchase allergen protective covers for your top mattress, your box springs and for your pillows.

  3. Step 3

Remove the carpet and cover the floors with hardwood or tile. Thick carpet is a safe haven for millions of dust mites. They are living in the fibers. The vacuum will not remove them. If you must have carpet, then purchase a thin textured carpet and invest in a vacuum that will remove mold, pet dander and allergens.

  4. Step 4

Replace your upholstered furniture with leather. Leather is more durable and the dust mites will have no place to hide. Also, replace your drapes with wood shutters or blinds.

  5. Step 5

Dust your furniture with a dust and allergen spray. Use it on your wood furniture, cabinets and other hard surfaces. By using a polish that is effective in controlling dust mites you will cut your dusting from every day to once a week. Your home will be dust free and your family will breathe easier.

Tips & Warnings
  • Change air-conditioner filter 4 times a year
  • Use filters that are for allergy suffers, will help you to breath better
  • Air purifier will remove dust from the air.
  • Wash bedding weekly in hot water
